Active Outdoor Learning

Holmsdale leads the way in active outdoor learning. Our ethos is that developing physical skills and engaging in active outdoor learning is critical for children's brain development, so we make excellent use of our extensive outdoor facilities- see below. We even offer an accredited Level 3 training course for other settings, for more details click here.

These photos show children climbing the totem pole on the top field, enjoying our` living willow structures and using sports equipment on our tennis court. We even have a traversing climbing wall, and have recently added a trim trail to our outdoor facilities.

What parents have to say about outdoor learning at Holmsdale:

''Good facilities, the outdoor activities are extensive.''

''Our first impressions were that Holmsdale is professionally run, has great outdoor spaces and activities... I chose it because of this and the range of experiences available (growing veg, helping with dinner, walks, pets).''

what one loves in childhood''I love the outdoor facilities.''

''We chose Holmsdale because of location, flexible hours, cost and varied activities, especially outdoors.''

''It is a secure environment with lots of space. We liked the fact that there was opportunity for our son to be outside and there is plenty of open space and animals (things we want him to enjoy).''

At Holmsdale Manor we believe that every part of the Early Years curriculum can be taught through exciting, inspiring activities, many of which are based outside.

Click the links below to find out more about Forest School, the art workshop, the sound garden, water walls and mud and sand kitchens. These are just some of the fantastic active outdoor learning experiences we offer.

We make the most of the outdoor environment, planting, watering and harvesting fruit and vegetables. We have recently developed this, adding a new greenhouse and raise beds as part of our involvement in the RHS School Gardening Awards. We also have plenty of opportunity to observe and spend time caring for our pets, plus opportunities for pond dipping, bug hunts, collecting natural materials and simply 'being' outside.
